Using Epiphan Video with Q-Sys
I recently integrated the Epiphan Pearl-2, with Q-SYS via the official Epiphan plugin, for a college to enable recording and streaming of classes. Although the school uses Panopto to monitor and control all of their spaces, these rooms needed control from Q-SYS, so instructors could start streaming directly from their touchpanel.
Connecting Q-Sys to the Epiphan is super easy. Set the IP, protocol, credentials, and channels/layers in the Epiphan GUI first. Then in Q-SYS, configure channel/layer count and protocol in the properties before pushing. If you can’t get a connection, confirm IP, port, credentials, and protocol. If those are all correct, the issue is likely with the network between the devices.
The plugin supports all Pearl devices and includes a preview window, it’s great for snapshot-style verification of source signals, but it’s not a true live stream.
If using the Pearl-2, make sure that it is connected to the network via its primary Ethernet port, as it only receives API commands through this port and not via any Ethernet-to-USB adapter.
The plug-in in the Q-Sys Asset Manager has been more than sufficient for me and my clients, but you can always create your own control if needed, as they provide the API on their website.
Don't tell anyone, but I really like the Epiphan Video products.
